Here are some frequent questions that our clients have asked. Feel free to email us via our Contact Us page with your specific questions.
How much do you charge?
Our fees are based on the number of forms and schedules needed to correctly and adequately report your tax situation, the complexity of your tax situation, and the amount of time involved in the preparation of your return. If you stop by our office, we can briefly review your situation, get a feel for how complicated your work is, and provide you with an estimated fee. Our fees are competative with other professional firms and may be more than the "fast food" chain of commercial tax preparers. We believe we offer the best professional value in the area. If you ask, "How much is a bag of groceries?", you get the same answer. It depends on what is in the bag!
How quickly can I receive my tax refund?
Normally, within two (2) weeks, if you use direct deposit service. Some returns qualify for direct deposit refunds as quickly as five (5) business days. Your refund will be deposited directly into your bank account, at no additional charge. There is no reason for any taxpayer to pay additional (and expensive) fees to have refunds returned any quicker than that.
What if I have a tax question during the tax year?
As a regular tax preparation client, you may contact our office as often as necessary during the year for tax planning advice. There is no charge for brief telephone, fax, or email questions or advice. For more detailed consultations, which require specific research, worksheets or written opinions, we will, at our discretion, charge a reasonable fee. We can also schedule a special "Tax Coaching" session with you.
What do I do if if I haven't received my refund?
The Internal Revenue Service has a toll free number to handle your refund inquiries. It is 1-800-829-4477. Please have your social security number, your filing status, and the whole dollar amount of your refund handy. Also, please allow four (4) to six (6) weeks before calling to check the status of your refund. You may also check the resources section of our website. We provide a link directly to the IRS website for you to check on your tax refund.
How long do I keep my tax records?
The Internal Revenue Service suggests 3 years from the due date of your last return. We suggest that you discard receipts, bills and credit card statements after 3 years. However, your tax returns, W-2s, 1099s from banks and mutual funds or brokerage firms or any contract for an asset you still own, should be made a part of a permanent file. We provide a more detailed list for all of our clients. A comprehensive list is available in our office.
What if I get a letter from the IRS?
If you receive a letter relating to a federal or state tax return we have prepared, send it to our office immediately, and we will respond accordingly. We stand behind the work produced in our office and do not charge additional fees for responding to tax notices if we made an error. We will do what it takes to correct any errors on our part. If you receive a letter or notice regarding a federal or state tax return that was NOT prepared through our office, you should know that our staff of Enrolled Agents are ready to assist you in the matter. Enrolled Agents are Federally Licensed Tax Professionals and are authorized by the United States Treasury department to represent taxpayers and assist them in clearing up any delinquent tax matters.
How can you save me money?
Our staff of professionally trained accountants and tax professionals has many years of experience to draw from in tax planning, accounting, and business advice. Unlike the chain of commercial tax preparers, we explain various tax-saving ideas in plain language and let you choose which ideas you would like to implement to save you money or that are most appropriate for your personal tax situation. We provide you with advice to improve your situation next year! We are detail-oriented, and we ask a lot of questions. You should expect no less from any trained tax professional. We work tirelessly to provide you with the lowest legal tax liability possible. Most of our clients save much more than the cost of preparing their tax returns.
